Meryl Streep at Globes: T-Bone and Tears |
|
Meryl Streep beat her very own self by winning the Golden Globe as best leading actress in Julie & Julia, as the celebrated "French Chef," Julia Child. During a highpoint of Sunday night's ceremony, the revered leading lady first said that she wants to change her name to T-Bone Streep, then turned unabashedly emotional. PHOTOS: 10 Best Quotes of the Golden Globes Also nominated for her role in the marital comedy It's Complicated, Streep chose the moment of her Julia victory to pay tribute to her mother, who had no patience for doom and gloom, she said.
"I'm not like that," said Streep, who admitted she finds it difficult to put on her happy face, even during a celebratory night like the one she was experiencing, in light of all difficulties in the world. But, she continued, "I am really grateful."
She also thanked her writer-director on Julie & Julia, Nora Ephron. "I love Nora," she said – twice. – Stephen M. Silverman
