Jeff Bridges didn't want to please his dad by becoming an actor
The "Crazy Heart" star - who has been nominated for Best Actor at the forthcoming Academy Awards - admits he was reluctant to follow his parents Lloyd and Dorothy Bridges into Hollywood.
He said: "My dad loved showbusiness. Traveling around, working with other people and he encouraged me to go into it."
"But, typical kid, you don't want to do what your parents want you to do. You don't want to be liked because of who your father is."
However, the 60-year-old star admitted that once he made the decision to become an actor, having a famous family made it easier for him to get started.
He added: "The hardest thing about acting is getting a foot in the door and that was all handled by my dad. The fact is, I'm a product of nepotism. And that took some getting used to."
"Life will supply you with gutters. Having a famous father. Feeling that stench of nepotism. That's a gutter right there."
