Shia LaBeouf isn't usually shy about discussing his personal life |
|
But when it comes to his Oscar-nominated girlfriend, Carey Mulligan, he's uncharacteristically tight-lipped.
"I never really had anything in my life that was off-limits. But with this, just out of respect, I just don't want to [expletive] around," the actor, 23, tells GQ in its April issue.
He will offer this much about his Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps costar, also 23: "She's an unbelievably thought-provoking actress, the most talented actress I've ever met in my life, by leaps and bounds. Neither one of us are fame whores. It works out. It's not like we're the premiere couple; we're not the red-carpet king and queen."
LaBeouf is more effusive about his July 2008 car accident, which left him with a permanently injured left hand. The actor has taken some responsibility for the accident in the past – he was booked for DUI, though never charged – but he is clearly still furious about it.
"I'm so angry. Because this accident was not caused by me," he says. "I got hit. I had a green. This [guy] ran a red light. And he flipped my truck, and he shoveled it on my hand."
His career, at least, has remained on course. Filming Money Never Sleeps with Oliver Stone was an adventure – LaBeouf even dabbles in trading himself nowadays – but one difficult part was seeing costar Michael Douglas struggling with his son Cameron's drug and legal problems.
"Michael Douglas was an open wound," says LaBeouf. "That dude is in pain. He was emotional putty on the set. A struggling man. We filmed a struggling man."
